about

"Mee Yagur" is a passage from the Book of Psalms (15:1-5) that tries to describe the state of righteous living, how a person should behave if they desire to be in relationship with God. "Mee Yagur" comes from "The First Album," Beged Kefet's debut album (1987). Beged Kefet (1982-2009) was comprised of: Rabbi Les Bronstein, Rabbi Billy Dreskin, Cantor Ellen Dreskin, Cantor Riki Lippitz, Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller, Beth Sher, and Cantor Leon Sher. As you will hear, we worked hard to produce tight harmonies. And this was before you could tune things up afterward. Audio verite, you might say!

lyrics

Mee Yagur
Text: Psalms 15
Music: Billy Dreskin

Translation: God, who may enter Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy mountain? One who lives without blame, who does what is right, and in their heart acknowledges the truth; who speaks only goodness; who has never harmed another, or acted selfishly against their neighbor; for whom a contemptible person is abhorrent, but who honors those who honor God; who stands by their promise even if it is to their own disadvantage; who does not lend money at interest, nor accepted a bribe against the innocent. The person who lives in these ways shall never be shaken.
